Parenting

Becoming a parent is a life-changing responsibility, and it’s normal to feel uncertain or overwhelmed. Whether you are young, still in school, or simply unsure how you’ll manage, we are here to help you every step of the way.

Common concerns you may have:

“I want the baby, but my boyfriend doesn’t.”

“I’m too young to have a baby.”

“I’m afraid to tell my family.”

“Can I finish school if I’m pregnant?”

“How will I afford to raise a child?”

“Where will I live?”

“I don’t have medical insurance.”

These questions are completely valid—and you don’t have to answer them alone. At First Call, we’ll help you make a plan for your pregnancy and connect you with free programs, material support, and parenting education to help you prepare for the future.

Our Parenting Resources Include:

  • Free prenatal and parenting classes

Adoption

Adoption may be the right choice if you are not ready to parent but want to give your baby life.

At First Call, we provide information and emotional support to help you explore adoption without pressure or judgment.

Women often consider adoption because they:

  • Want their child to grow up in a stable, two-parent home
  • Are not ready to be a parent at this time in their lives
  • Want their child to have opportunities they may not be able to provide right now

At First Call, we:

  • Offer emotional support as you process your decision
  • Connect you to trusted local adoption agencies
  • Help you plan for the months ahead with compassion and care

You are always in control. Whether you choose open, semi-open, or closed adoption, the decision is yours.

Abortion

If you are considering abortion, it’s important to get accurate information before making your decision.

At First Call Pregnancy Center, we do not perform or refer for abortions, but we are committed to giving you free, confidential resources so you can make an informed choice for your future.

Your First Step:

Before scheduling an abortion, we recommend:

  • Free pregnancy test to confirm your pregnancy
  • Free ultrasound to determine how far along you are
  • STD testing referral, as untreated infections can lead to complications such as Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID) during or after an abortion

Types of Abortion Procedures:

The type of abortion depends on how far along you are in your pregnancy.

  • Abortion Pill (Medication Abortion) – Typically used in early pregnancy
  • Vacuum Aspiration – A procedure for early to mid-pregnancy
  • Dilation and Curettage (D&C) – Used in certain cases, generally in the first trimester
  • Dilation and Evacuation (D&E) – Typically performed after the first trimester

Medical Risks of Abortion:

Like any medical procedure, abortion comes with risks. Some potential complications include:

  • Pelvic Infection (Sepsis)
Bacteria (germs) from the vagina may enter the cervix and womb and cause an infection. Antibiotics are used to treat an infection. In rare cases, a repeat suction, hospitalization or surgery may be needed.
  • Incomplete Abortion
Fetal parts or parts of the placenta may not be completely emptied from the womb, requiring further medical procedures. Incomplete abortion may result in infection and bleeding.
  • Bleeding
Some amount of bleeding is common following an abortion. Heavy bleeding is not common and may be treated by repeat suction, medication or, rarely, surgery. Ask the doctor to explain heavy bleeding and what to do if it occurs.
  • Cut or Torn Cervix
The opening of the womb (cervix) may be torn while it is being stretched open to allow medical instruments to pass through and into the uterus.
  • Perforation of the Wall of the Womb
A medical instrument may go through the wall of the uterus. Depending on the severity, perforation can lead to infection, heavy bleeding or both. Surgery may be required to repair the uterine tissue, and in the most severe cases a hysterectomy may be required.
  • Anesthesia-Related Complications
As with other surgical procedures, anesthesia increases the risk of complications.

Emotional Impact of Abortion:

Many women experience emotional effects after an abortion, including:

  • Guilt or grief
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Relationship strain or breakup (studies show up to 90% of couples break up following an abortion)

You deserve a safe, supportive space to process your emotions and talk through these challenges. We are here to listen and help.

You Are Not Alone

Remember, it’s a woman’s right to be fully informed by her doctor prior to any procedure. A woman should be encouraged to ask questions. Additionally, you may feel pressure from your partner, family, or friends—but this is ultimately your decision and your life. At First Call Pregnancy Center, we’ll walk alongside you with compassion, practical resources, and hope for the future.

Let us support you as you make the decision that’s right for you. Contact us today to schedule a free, confidential appointment. You can also call the Crisis Pregnancy and Abortion Information Hotline at 800-712-4357.

Healing After Abortion:

If you are struggling with the pain of a past abortion, you don’t have to face it alone. We offer confidential, one-on-one support with a caring and trained team member in a safe, nonjudgmental space where you can process your emotions, find hope, and experience healing at your own pace. No matter how long it has been since your abortion, we are here to walk alongside you with compassion and understanding.
